Amy Adams spotted on Marshfield beach filming movie scene with kites

MARSHFIELD − Among the creatures dancing in the wind over Rexhame Beach on Monday afternoon were a giant purple octopus, two species of whales, a scuba diver and a frog.

The spectacle dazzled Marshfield beachgoers as dozens of kites small and large soared above film crews ahead of Oscar-nominated actor Amy Adams' arrival to the set of an upcoming movie titled "At the Sea."

Later, Adams could be seen standing near the dunes taking direction with a child actor. She wore a long black and white dress and the child carried a kite of his own for a scene at a "kite festival."

Oscar Qualifying Short Film Review “Red White and Blue”

“It’s a performance filled with both muted and unreserved passion thanks to the veteran actress’ talents and it makes the film worth viewing in itself when paired with the story taking place. Primary supporting roles come about first through Juliet Donenfeld and Redding Munsell as Rachel’s 10-year old daughter Maddy and son Jake respectively, both of whom once more prove that the skills possessed by child actors in this day and age continue to be a triumph, as both Donenfeld and Munsell inbue their characters with grounded credibility.”

Brittany Snow on Changing People's Perceptions with Her Oscar-Nominated Short Film…

“Snow says that before filming, she was “a little hesitant” to portray a mother — a career-first for the actress — noting that she doesn’t “necessarily know the intricacies of how to be a mom.”

Instead, she found a different way to connect with Rachel, a single mom of two navigating a situation that is both emotionally and logistically difficult.

“I think what I related to is that I'm not a mom yet, or necessarily, but I do think a lot of women have to face really hard challenges and yet be very strong and stoic and silent in a way,” she says. “Because they don't have another choice.”

“They can't break down and show weakness because they have something to uphold. And I did really resonate with that idea that sometimes you don't have a choice,” she continues. “There is no room for a hysterical breakdown or something, even though it's the hardest thing.”

So, through a bit of bonding with her onscreen kids — played by Juliet Donenfeld and Redding Munsell — and a “soft” Arkansas accent curated through extensive YouTube research, Rachel quickly took shape.

And under Choudhury’s direction, Snow’s performance helped land the gut-wrenching short an Oscar nomination — news that left Snow “shocked.”

2024 Oscar Nominated Live Action Shorts

“Choudhury’s “Red, White and Blue,” you’ll miss a very important piece of information that will make its third act reveal a total stunner.  But here’s the thing - even if you do, be prepared for a shock.  This affecting drama about Rachel (Brittany Snow, "X"), who is struggling to make a life for eleven year-old Maddy (Juliet Donenfeld) and her much younger brother Jake (Redding Munsell) by working as a diner waitress is already a moving account of what so many women face today and Snow exhibits frustration, concern and above all, patience, as she’s faced with coming up with one more dollar when Jake loses his first tooth.  But it’s the road trip she goes on with Maddy, the duo’s first jaunt outside of Arkansas, which defines the depth of her love and sacrifice while damning the society which requires it.  “Red, White and Blue” is the only entry that might upset a Wes Anderson win.

“While our story delves into a real crisis for millions of Americans,” Choudhury says, “it was important for me to show the full depth and breadth of the human experience. Joy and sadness aren’t mutually exclusive, and that duality can, in fact, coexist. The tone of this film was ultimately balanced by the underlying thematic idea of what it actually means to be a parent and, as such, it is unapologetically a celebration of motherhood.”
